Create your own library. Let your current books cross new ones. A book selection from the library will be generated depending of the ones from your own bookshelf.

We've all been there: that hurried mess, thumbing the spines of endless tomes set among innumerable shelves. Brought to our whit's end, we inevitably cave and muster the courage to approach the craggy and altogether aggressively unhelpful librarian. We discover that a request for literary navigation aid can in fact result in an assistance deficit, as you leave the exchange more befuddled than when you entered. Well, this callous ghoul has no residence at Rietveld—to the contrary, we count ourselves among the luckiest few. We receive the guiding hand that is of the kindest, warmest and most supple nature. That outstretched arm is connected to the shoulder, connected to a neck, holding the face of something which this author does a disservice in calling a face—“star matter fashioned in the similar placement of a face" seems a more befitting descriptor. But this is not an exercise in bibliographical fawning, despite the fact silk banners should be unfurled, trumpets should be sounded and an ever-flowing wellspring of credit given to those celestial bodies us layman call the Rietveld library staff. It is, in fact, an exercise in the lateral, creative thinking that forms the very bedrock in which that botanically laden, immaculately maintained and well-lit haven sits atop. This website is intended to act as a charming and mildly inebriated adjunct to the book location service. After a penetrating session of research, this website has reduced the libraries vast collection down to those titillating topics that Rietveld students hold above all others. To represent this, imagery has been plucked from those treasured tomes and assorted in a 'siso-fashion'. 'If it ain't broke' as the adage goes, 'don't fix it'—we stand on the shoulders of giants. While traditionally, websites are a thing to be browsed, this is a journey to be undertaken. This is not an assemblage of pixelated hyperlinks, lists of barcodes, a binary map dull and frayed along it's infographic edges. The cursor you wield traverses a page better described as parchment. Take head of the rich imagery, as each has been placed precisely and with the deft care of a babe soothing calibre. This cursor on this page is not merely a means of navigation, but the fingertip of a provocateur, one eager to click, so that it may too turn the page it seeks.

Extremely dense but nice grid-style web design that doesn't support mobile due to my lack of knowledge in coding. If you know how to fix this, please let me know. Thank you <3

Because we are all using the website of the library for different reasons, the users could arrange the front page as they want, depending on what they need to do. The buttons of the different categories can be moved and resized.

THE UNBORROWED BOOKS OF THE LIBRARY I decided to work with Gersande Schellinx (TXT), because she reads a lot and I don't. We wrote reviews about the books that have never been borrowed, using the same layout. You can recognize those books because they don't have a stamp. We also double-checked if they were recorded in the files as 'unborrowed'. We also had to come up with a system to find them, instead of looking in the shelves forever. We roll the dices, and the number we get brings us to a certain book in the map. Then, we grab the closest 'unborrowed book'. It is marked by a blue cross. For instance, 'Unborrowed book 1': 3rd shelve starting from the bottom, the nearest to the 6th book from the left.

As we live life through visual and images I decided to create a website that only includes images from Library of Gerrit Rietveld Academie. I think in todays internet and social media age communicating through images become more common thing than text and with images a lot can be said and I wanted use the my idea of Rietveld through these images I found from different artists. Artists include: Henri Matisse, Araki, Henrik Olesen and David Shringley.

Together with Wieke, we decided to team up and work on one proposal. We want the visitor to decide what kind of topic would be relevant to add to the library. We believe that the function of the library is to confront ideas, to create connections and to broaden ones knowledge. By using the marquee function, pairs of words overlap and clash in the middle of the screen and we want people to be able to vote for the option they like the most. for instance ASTROLOGY or MEME CULTURE?

A proposal for proposals. Why should there be physical books ? Why should there be a physical library ? Why should there be new physical books in a physical library ?

Bouncy and eccentric, will soon contain more pragmatic informations, I swear, in the meantime, just have fun.

Bonjour. I love the Internet, but barely know anything about it. Sometimes users can be neglected. Therefore, I wanted the most easy and fluid experience for all kind of Internet wanderers, but especially for those who only pass by for the simple reason of finding the book their looking for. And for those who like to get recommandations, even when they haven't asked for it.

A website that values the dual lives of a library: something permanent (the collection, an archive, a stable organisation of books) & something ever-changing (a host of events, exhibitions, and updating of said collection).
